CDM 2025 / CDM 2025 (#SMKC25)
« le: 24 Décembre 2024, à 10:26:58 »
Hello everyone!
I'm here to inform you that in 2025 there are going to be some changes to the Super Mario Kart World Championship. Having changed jobs, I'm no longer available at the end of August, as I'll be back at work on 25 August. It's impossible to choose the dates from 19 to 23 August for logistical reasons, and it's impossible to choose the dates from 12 to 16 because 15 August is a public holiday and the Espace Philippe Auguste is closed. The only dates left are 05 to 09 August, but I already told you that at the end of the CDM 2024.
However, my request to book the Vikings room from 04 to 11 August was turned down because the Philippe Auguste space is closed at that time. The only possibility they offered me was from 25 August to 31 August, but that was impossible for me.
As soon as I heard this news, I asked to meet the Mayor of Vernon, who supports us, so that he could help us.
He didn't manage to convince the staff at the Espace Philippe Auguste to open for our event either, but he did put a team in place to look for a new venue.
After 7 visits to different venues: 3 different gymnasiums (too big for us), Salle Jacques Brel (too far, 30 minutes' walk from Vernon town centre), Salle du Virolet (in Saint Marcel and not in Vernon, also too far from the town centre), Salle polyvalente at Ariane college (too small)...etc etc.
My choice fell on a nursery school: ‘L’ école de la république’, it's atypical and totally different from what we've had in terms of comfort and professionalism at the salle vikings but I think it has potential, let me explain:
The Ecole de la République is right in the centre of town, even more central than the Salle Viking was, there's fibre (same speed as at the Espace Philippe Auguste, I did a speed test), several rooms for several atmospheres (simpler to fit out): a CRT room with a giant screen, a commentators' room (very quiet and enclosed, so they can shout without disturbing the players), a games room with games consoles, pinball machines and FREE PLAY arcade machines, a catering room, a soundproofed chill room upstairs, a playground where we'll put up a marquee with tables and benches for those who want to eat outside, the GANAM Bar, and food trucks are allowed into the playground.
The big plus is that I'll have the keys to the school, so we won't have to worry about time limits, we'll close when we want.
I'm going to make sure we keep the same spirit as at the Viking hall (conviviality, privatised hall, free public welcome, boxes for each gaming station...), trust me, we're just changing venue, and maybe we'll be better there who knows?
I can therefore confirm the dates of 05 to 09 August for the SMKC25.
I'm currently working on the poster, and as soon as it's finalised I'll be launching registrations.
A surprise will be revealed at the same time as the poster is unveiled, so don't forget to come on 09 and 10 August for the great new feature 2025, another crazy idea from Rejemy.
Enjoy the festive christmas and be well
