I've no bias on this but it would be nice for it to be tested for my return in 2025. Until then I wish you all the very best of luck at what will be a fabulous event in a couple of weeks.

So that means no Irishman this year?

The deadline for feedback/opinions is July 31.

Are all the new rules official now, and does this finally mean that anyone waking up in August will not be able to change everything?

Règlement / Rule changes for 2024

Now that it's July and we're roughly halfway through the discussion period for this topic, I want to provide some insight into my current evaluation of the discussion and what it would look like in terms of decision-making based on the feedback so far. This way there is still time for further conversations prior to finalizing this year's ruleset.

For reference, my general stance is that the decision to be made on these different ruleset matters is primarily driven by majority opinion. However, if there's no clear majority (i.e. it's close to a 50/50 split in opinion), then I would err on the side of conserving the existing rule when applicable. There's also a consideration to be had with regards to who is impacted by a given rule. In that sense, I would give a lower-ranked player's opinion more weight with regards to something like "Should BM/MR group stage matches change to 6 rounds instead of 4?" rather than something like "Should a bracket reset impact the point allocation for the players in the final?"
Very solid points there, nothing to add. I only want to react to 3 specific points:

I know that the consequences of having three groups with regards to bracket seeding aren't great, but I also think that there are certain participant counts for which three groups are the only viable option. I think that we should guarantee at least 10 matches per player in group stage (especially given that Round Robin is faster to run than Swiss). This means that we shouldn't have four groups with fewer than 44 players. On the flip side, it's less clear to me what we should allow as the maximum number of matches. Keep in mind that the larger that number, the smaller the range in which we'd need to use three groups.
Have you tried to figure out what would be the largest possible number of matches, especially in BM/GP, without making things too long?

It seems pretty obvious everyone can play 16 games but have you considered going up to a bit more if there's no need for a third group (for example, if there are "only" 36 players) ? I see that Karel has pointed this out so I think this should be discussed.

I think that what I would go for currently is to disallow retry petitions from players. In parallel, I think that we should improve the logistics of LKS so that we have vigilant staff who can issue a retry due to external interference. Of course, the staff part would require some additional discussion and coordination to make sure that actually happens at CDM.
Entirely agree with that "vigilant staff" part, considering that I've advocated this in my initial answer. I have no problem with retry petitions being forbidden as long as there's somebody able to tell if there was something disturbing us or not (but more importantly, making sure there's nothing).

GP tiebreaker will be changed to points scored instead of point differential.

This should have been done for ages and it's really a good thing we're eventually going for it. To be honest I really don't understand why we haven't considered it before.

I'll let you choose this year's rules. I'll take care of the rest of the organisation, I trust you with that.
I've never taken the time to study the rules in depth, I've got all kinds of other things to prepare and it's a lot of work.

That's fair, and in a perfect world that's how things should be. Organizers should be different people from those setting the rules, and both should not even be active players, at least not during the tournament they're organizing/ruling.

10 years ago, when I was tired of being FFSMK president / host, this was not only because I had the feeling it prevented me from getting better results. I felt like it was not entirely fair to have somebody ruling the overall event being a regular medal contender at the same time. I had discussed this with Baptiste (now retired from the community) and we had agreed that FFSMK should be ruled by non-active / retired players so they could focus on the organization, the rules, without being affected on track. It should be the same for every "non-playing" role during the championships: players should just be there to play AND help if possible, but they should never be in charge of anything related to the competition they are attending. This is also why we had this FFSMK suscriber thing that enabled the possibility for players to give their vote about rules discussions.

Unfortunately, this community never managed to have (enough) people deeply implied enough in the rules and the organization process who didn't want/care to attend any mode at the same time. Patrick kinda sacrificed himself for the sake of the results file but once again, this should not happen this way :(

I wonder if JSMKC had something to do with everyone going with Round Robin or if we just all wanted it to be back but never spoke about it because there was no proper rules discussion.

It is also important to note that the arbiter giving you the go-ahead is mostly so you don't interrupt the previous player. So, when you get the go ahead you can take a bit of time to check your surroundings, wait a bit if need be, and make sure you are happy before you go.

Very smart words there indeed!

Maybe this could be added as a 5th question in Lafungo's original post?

It also disincentivizes top players from trolling the living daylights out of people that are already struggling to rank in.

I agree, and I must confess that I feel targeted there, but that's fair given what I've done to a few low-ranked players in the past. I never enjoyed doing it (well, MAYBE once on KB1 against an Irish spaceman) but I felt that was an opportunity not to be missed, because it counted and was part of the game. In the end it helped me to win a tiebreaker, if I'm correct.

If we can make sure this is not important/useful anymore, this will be better if we give a 5-0/4-1/3-2 advantage to the match winner instead of 45-30/42-33/39-36/etc. If that's what we're talking about, of course.
